Club Topsy Radio is back.

Jan 03 2010

Welcome to Club Topsy Radio, podcast edition. In September 1997, I created and opened a vintage club, Club Topsy. The dream was to introduce the era of wingtips and suits through dance and music by creating a universe unlike any other.

Though the dream of Club Topsy faded by December 1997, the wish still lived on to spread the greatness of new bands such as Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Indigo Swing, Swingtips, and my favorite Big Time Operator. In 2002, I started a shoutcast radio station, Club Topsy Radio and hosted that radio station on this URL for nearly 3 years.

By the end of 2005, though I had almost 30,000 monthly listeners on average, I had paid nearly $8,000 out of pocket on bandwidth costs and needed to close it down. The weekly live radio show was a hit overseas, as well as in the United States for fans of an era that’s been out of the lime light for over a decade now.

Things have changed; but I still love this stuff. Every week, right here, I’m going to post a full one-hour set of Swingin’ sounds for your listening enjoyment. Club Topsy Radio Podcast Edition.

I’m doing this because I feel like it. I’m doing this because I love big bands, I love jump blues, I love jazz. I’m doing this because I like the hats, damn it – and because no one can stop me from wearing argyle socks. I’m doing this because I have such an extensive collection of this music that it needs to be shared, not only through the podcasts, but through the posts, which is why each post will include a track list, and a link to where you can purchase the CD or tracks, if they’re available.

I hope you enjoy it. I hope you share it with others you think will enjoy it.
